Gypsy is a beautiful girl who is slowly but surely coming out of her shell. As the last of her litter, she is looking for a patient family to help her blossom into the confident cat she's meant to be!

Personality: Shy at first, but incredibly sweet once she feels comfortable.

Hobbies: Loves a good play session followed by a cozy cat nap.

Cat-Friendly: Gets along well with other felines; she would thrive with a confident kitty friend to show her the ropes.

Ideal Match: A quiet, loving home ready to give her the time and patience she needs to truly shine.

Happy New Year! Let’s take a moment to reflect on 2025 before getting into January’s news. Thanks to you, our donors, sponsors, staff, and volunteers in 2025 we were able to find 502 animals their fur-ever homes, reunite 209 lost pets with their families! Dr. Clare and our veterinary staff were able to alter (spay/neuter) an astounding 1249 cats and dogs! We are profoundly grateful to everyone who read our newsletter, shared our posts on social media, opened their homes as fosters and adopters, volunteered their time and talents, and donated their hard earned money. In December we saw an outpouring of generosity and Holiday Miracles. Thank you to everyone who donated special Holiday Shelter Meals for our dogs, bought us much needed supplies from our wishlist , attended our Dine Outs, Festival of Trees, and the Hair Ball! We know how busy December is for people, and it means the world to us that you found the time and resources to show up for us! Read on to learn more and see what’s coming up for MCHS …

Second Annual Festival of Trees a Big Success!

Thanks to the City of Fort Bragg, Visit Fort Bragg, our creative volunteers who decorated one-of-a-kind trees, and our generous community members, our Second Annual Festival of Trees Silent Auction raised $4,200 for our shelter! This event also gave our shelter pups a chance to meet-and-greet with our community at Fort Bragg Town Hall, which lifted everyone’s spirits during the darkest days of the year.

Inaugural Hair Ball at Little River Inn Raised $5,000!

We were blown away by the turn out for our Inaugural Hair Ball at the pet-friendly Little River Inn! You all dressed to impress, brought (or bought) your biggest hair-dos, 80’s inspired outfits, and made it a celebration to remember! We want to extend a huge thank you to all of our donors, sponsors, and attendees: through your generosity of time, creativity, and donations you raised $5,000 for MCHS! Huge thanks to Ms. Cally Coombs, owner of Little River Inn, who donated the use of the Abalone Room for this party. Cally is a champion of MCHS and so many other great local causes, like Mendo Parks. We love you Cally! Heartfelt gratitude to our talented and dedicated board member Jen Minnich for helping to conceive of and organize this event, styling and photographing our pets in 80’s costumes, and donating so much of her time during the busy holiday season. Thanks to Chef Kenny from SCP Mendo Farm + Terra Mar Kitchen for feeding our guests delicious bites. Big love to Kiersten Hanna of Braggadoon Signs and Graphics who created AWESOME posters for decor and keeps our town’s businesses looking spiffy. Guests sipped on fabulous Anderson Valley Wines, Fort Bragg’s Schnaulbelt Spirits, Anderson Valley Brewing Company Beer , and our new fave, Pentire Non-Alcoholic Spirit. DJ DLT (aka Tony De La Torre) spun retro tunes. Jamie and Hugh of local Indie Folk act Shuga sang sweetly to us. Alex Fields of Tour Mendocino made sure everyone got to and from the party safely! Thank you to our raffle donors: Energy Healing Sessions from Jen Minnich , Grooming by Salty Paws, cool merch from Larry Spring Museum and Lost Coast Found Vintage , and gifts from Rise and Be Well Spa. We can’t wait to party with you again next December.

Frosty The Cat

If you’re in the market for a cat who will always have your lap, then Frosty may just be your match! Frosty is a 2-year-old-male, and he is the ultimate lap cat. He simply loves to cuddle up with a human companion, purring to his heart’s content as he settles in for a comfortable nap. Frosty gets short boosts of the zoomies, where he enjoys climbing, playing with toys, stretching, and nestling under blankets. Despite his interest in humans, Frosty is fairly uninterested in other cats, and would do very well in a home where he can be the apple of his humans’ eyes. Frosty’s adoption fee is $60.00.
